A guide to attractions in Helsinki City

If you are thinking about “What to do in Helsinki”, then you will find this guide useful. The northern parts of Europe are filled with iconic, historically significant cities, and the city of Helsinki is definitely one of them. You will be impressed with the astounding locations here. When I first arrived in Helsinki, July 2009.

The splendor of summer in the city was breathtaking, and the memory is part of the reasons i have become attached to this lovely city.

Things to do in Helsinki

Without a doubt, Helsinki is full of attractions and landmarks for you to explore. Here are some of the top ones you can check out if you are planning to visit or already in the city.

The fortified islands of Suomenlinna

I have visited this place several times, and it never gets tiring. Despite being at a 20-minute ferry ride. There are lots of things to see here. The vistas are stunning, and you have the beautiful Sveaborg fortress dominating most of the island. This is a part of the list of world heritage monuments created by UNESCO.

Museum of Contemporary Art (Kiasma)

If you love art, visiting the Museum of Contemporary Art (Kiasma) is a very good idea, as it will impress you with its visuals and astonishing colors — enough to brighten up your day. The interior has a plethora of contemporary art. It also includes a theater too.

Linnanmäki Amusement Park

The Linnanmäki Amusement Park is one of the largest amusement parks in the region. It opened in 1950, and since then it has constantly received expansions and new features. While prices and attractions can change very often, it’s definitely one of the most iconic places to visit in Helsinki.

Ateneum (Finnish National Museum of Art)

The Ateneum is hosting the Finnish National Museum of Art and at the same time, it’s an astounding Neoclassical building in of itself. Another thing to note is that the museum holds works created by A Gallen Kallela, P Halonen and A Edelfelt, major artists from Finnish history.

Finlandia Hall

You’ll like the overall visual appeal and architectural structure of the Finlandia Hall a lot. This is a convention and a concert hall. They are using a façade created by Carrara Marble and they also used marble inside for the structure too. They have a large auditorium that has amazing acoustics. A must see!

Uspensky Cathedral

This is one of the largest churches in Helsinki, and it will impress with its huge brick-based architecture and sheer size as well. It has 13 gold cupolas, lots of different small towers and spires. The interior is just as impressive with numerous patterns and gold embellishments.

Speaking of incredible churches, you could also visit the Temppeliaukio Church (Rock Church) which is known to be a staple in the world of Helsinki attractions.

Market Square

If you’re looking to visit Helsinki, don’t forget the Market Square. This is a great place where you can find all kinds of souvenirs, food and lots of other stuff. It’s a wonderful place to visit for trinkets and things to buy for your loved ones. It’s also full of locally created items, so you will have something to take home and remember Helsinki!

Final Words

As you can see, Helsinki is full of extraordinary locations and exciting places to visit. You will always find some great things to check out and enjoy.

I feel blessed living in this magical city. Aside from the attractions i mentioned above, there are other landmarks such as the
